POE is one of the important new material products that everyone has paid attention to in recent years. From 2021 to 2022, pilot plants have been put into production one after another. POE is a high-end new material product in the end consumer market. It is widely used in the end consumer field, such as photovoltaic sealing film, shoe sole solution, LLDPE blend modification, etc. No matter what field it is used in, POE relies on economic growth to drive demand. expand.

According to official statistics, as of the end of 2023, the POE industrialization projects that have been announced across China, including planned construction projects in the near future and mid- and long-term POE projects, have a total scale of more than 4.4 million tons per year. In other words, after China's POE industry breaks through from zero in the future, it will rapidly soar to more than 4 million tons/year, with the industry's average annual growth rate showing 125%. If we exclude the medium and long-term second and third phase plans, by the end of 2025, the scale of China's POE industry will quickly exceed 1 million tons/year, and rapid growth may occur in the next two years.

In mid-2021, Jingbo Petrochemical's 600-ton/year POE pilot plant was put into operation. It was also the first project in China to achieve POE pilot testing. At the end of 2021, Wanhua Chemical's 2,000 ton/year pilot plant and Wison's 500 ton/year pilot plant were put into operation. In September 2022, Dongfang Shenghong's 800 ton/year unit was put into operation, and Maoming Petrochemical's 1,000 ton/year unit was put into operation. , In November 2022, Tianjin Petrochemical’s 1,000 tons/year pilot plant will be put into operation.

Before the end of 2023, the POE devices that have been put into production in China are all pilot projects. Although there are already supplies from these companies in the market, the scale is small and the quality stability is average. As a result, domestic POE products have not yet entered the high-end application market. After the delivery of BIO's 30,000 tons/year POE device, it is very likely to become the first truly industrialized POE device in China.

Photovoltaics will become the largest demand increase in POE downstream applications. In 2020, global POE consumption exceeded 1.2 million tons, of which photovoltaic POE consumed approximately 170,000 tons, so consumption in other application fields exceeded 1 million tons. With the mass production of N-type modules, we calculate that global photovoltaic POE demand will reach 32/66/1.18 million tons from 2023 to 2025 under the neutral scenario, and photovoltaics will become the largest increase in POE demand. If the POE demand in other industries remains at 1.1-1.2 million tons, the global POE demand under the neutral scenario in 2023 will be 1.42-1.52 million tons, may reach 1.76-1.86 million tons in 2024, and 2.28-2.38 million tons in 2025.

Due to the patent protection of metallocene catalysts by overseas companies and the lack of self-sufficiency in high-carbon alpha olefins, POE has not yet been domestically produced. Under the patent protection of metallocene catalysts by overseas companies and the blockade of the production process of high-carbon alpha olefins, the current production technology of POE is concentrated in overseas companies Dow, Mitsui, LG, ExxonMobil, SK/Sabic, all types The annual production capacity of POE can reach approximately 2 million tons. Among them, Dow's production capacity reaches about 1 million tons, accounting for about 50%.

With the exception of the BIO project, the Wanhua Chemical project is progressing rapidly, while other projects are progressing relatively slowly. Wanhua Chemical's 200,000 tons/year POE device is planned to be put into operation in the first and second quarters of 2024. It is also one of the projects currently progressing rapidly. The Beoyi project is expected to be put into trial operation in early 2024 and initially return to normal in 2025.

In addition, the satellite Huaxing 100,000 tons/year POE device is initially planned to reach production in mid-to-late 2024. The project is currently in the early construction stage and is very likely to be delayed. Maoming Petrochemical's 50,000 tons/year POE device is planned to be put into operation in 2025, and is currently in a relatively early stage. Tianjin Petrochemical's 100,000 tons/year POE device is planned to be put into trial operation in late 2024, with preliminary plans to resume normal production in 2025. The first phase of the Levima Wison (Jiangsu) New Materials Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Wison and Levima, is scheduled to be put into operation in 2026. The project is currently in an early stage. Jintang New Materials’ 300,000 tons/year POE device is planned to be put into trial production around 2025, but there is a high probability of delay.

In addition, there are many POE chemical projects, most of which are second- and third-phase planned projects with existing POE devices. Most of these projects will be put into production after 2026. It is doubtful whether such projects can truly reach production.
